The Cannon Beach Surf and Adventure Park development is set to break ground imminently in McKinney, Texas. Located just outside of Dallas, the development will feature a surf lagoon, resort hotel, and many more amenities across 35 acres.
Initially announced in December 2024, the Cannon Beach surf and adventure park is a project from the Cannon Development Group, who launched its first surf destination in Mesa, Arizona late last year. Its McKinney development will span 35 acres, with key attractions that include a four-acre lagoon with stationary surf waves, sandy beaches, as well as a 17-foot cliff diving pool and other aquatic attractions.
Another key attraction of the development is its resort hotel. Connecting to the surf lagoon by way of beach, the resort will feature lounge areas, cabanas, event spaces, as well as arooftop pool.
Across the grounds of Cannon Beach, visitors will also find a range of amenities and attractions for the whole family. Included is a skatepark, movie theater, health club, bowling alley, and other indoor facilities as well as commercial, office, and retail space.
“We cannot be more excited to bring a beach paradise to McKinney, whose leadership shares our unparalleled vision for a world-class, family-friendly destination that will quite literally bring the ocean to its backyard,” said developer Cole Cannon. “Cannon Beach promises to offer something for everyone, from families and thrillseekers to professionals and entrepreneurs.”
With its development, Cannon Beach aims to provide over 700 local jobs, attract around 300,000 visitors yearly generating an economic impact of $2 billion. This past June, the McKinney City Council voted to amend its budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year allocating $4 million to Cannon Beach.
Initial plans were to break ground on the development early 2025. Once in motion, the development will open in phases. Phase One, which includes the hotel and surf lagoon, could open as soon as 2026.
